Prague's Barrandov Bridge sculpture collapses, plans for replica underway

Around 09:00 a 6‑metre‑high, 15‑metre‑wide concrete sculpture titled "Rovnováha" (also known as "Červ dobyvatel") collapsed on the Barrandov Bridge in Prague. The structure fell without injuring pedestrians or drivers, and debris was quickly covered to keep the roadway safe.

City officials said the poor technical condition of the sculpture had been known for some time and the area had been fenced. The Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) secured the site and will retain the rubble for possible reuse. The municipal council will decide on further actions in the coming days. A faithful replica, designed by architect Petr Tej with input from the original artist’s family, is already being prepared, and the city plans an exhibition of the original work’s components later this year.
