Pragyan Ojha appointed as BCCI Chief Selector
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former spinner Pragyan Ojha as the new Chief Selector for the senior men’s national team, succeeding Ajit Agarkar. The restructured five-member selection committee includes Ramesh Powar, who joins as a member, alongside Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, and Ajay Ratra.
Ojha’s appointment follows his role as a key figure within the selection panel. Reports indicate that the BCCI previously utilized Ojha as a mediator to address communication gaps between head coach Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli. Due to his long-standing rapport with senior players, Ojha was reportedly tasked with facilitating resolutions during periods of internal friction.
The new committee faces immediate responsibilities, including squad selection for India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, which features T20, ODI, and Test series. Long-term objectives for the panel include preparing the team for the 2027 ODI World Cup and the 2025-27 World Test Championship.
