Prai Ijing Traditional Village sees economic growth through cultural tourism
Prai Ijing Traditional Village in West Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, is experiencing economic growth through community-based tourism development. Since receiving assistance from Bakti BCA in 2024, the village has recorded a 26% increase in income as of the end of 2025.
The village is characterized by its megalithic history and traditional architecture, specifically the Umma Kalada houses with high-pitched roofs. Development efforts focus on strengthening human resources and village institutions to ensure residents act as the primary managers of their local culture and economy.
To facilitate tourism, the local tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) has introduced structured travel packages. These include a Full Day Tour covering village history, traditional games, weaving workshops, and local cuisine, as well as a shorter Heritage Tour focused on historical sites and weaving demonstrations.
