Praia a Mare Mayor Bans Unaccompanied Minors from Nighttime Streets

Mayor Antonino De Lorenzo of Praia a Mare issued an ordinance that prohibits minors under 14 from being on public streets without a parent, guardian, or responsible adult between 1:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The measure, effective until 31 August, aims to curb nighttime disturbances, vandalism, waste dumping and protect youths from accidents and aggression. Violations carry administrative fines ranging from €25 to €500.

The decree follows local police reports of groups of young people gathering after dark, causing nuisance to residents and tourists. De Lorenzo emphasized parental responsibility, noting that the rule is a preventive safety measure rather than a restriction of freedom.
