Praia da Glória hosts conservation mobilization event

In anticipation of World Cleanup Day, a conservation mobilization event was held at Praia da Glória in Rio de Janeiro. Organized by Regenera Rio and Águas do Rio, both companies under Aegea, the initiative involved over 60 participants, including employees and youth from the Velejando para o Futuro project, who collected more than 40 kg of waste from the sand.

The event highlights the recent environmental transformation of Praia da Glória, which regained its bathing suitability in 2024. Structural interventions by Águas do Rio, such as the cleaning of the Ocean Interceptor and the diversion of the Rio Carioca, have prevented approximately 22 million liters of contaminated water from reaching the shore daily. Water quality indices have remained high, with 77% suitability in 2024 and 75% in 2025. The collected waste was sent to the Caju Waste Transfer Station for proper disposal.
