Praia do Forte hosts 9th Humpback Whale Festival

The 9th edition of the Humpback Whale Festival is taking place in Praia do Forte, Bahia. The free event aims to celebrate the presence of these marine mammals while integrating nature, art, sports, and music within the community.

Environmental educator Isabela Oliveira, coordinator of Espaço Baleia Jubarte, noted that the festival serves as a platform for environmental education. She highlighted the ecological importance of humpback whales, explaining that they act as significant carbon reservoirs and assist in ocean oxygen production by fertilizing phytoplankton through their waste.

The program includes various cultural activities, such as the ‘Cortejo da Baleia Elétrica’ featuring Armandinho Macedo and Irmãos Macedo. The celebration is part of the 4th edition of the ‘Festival Praia do Forte a Seu Gosto’, which combines gastronomy, tourism, and nature.
