Praia do Norte wins four trophies at Big Wave Challenge 2026

Praia do Norte was the central location for four major awards at the Big Wave Challenge 2026 gala held in Newport Beach, California. During the 2025/2026 season, waves surfed at the Portuguese site dominated several key categories.

Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa won the Men’s Biggest Wave award for a wave surfed at Praia do Norte in December 2025. The wave had a preliminary measurement of 29.15 meters, which, if officially validated by Guinness World Records, would surpass the current record of 26.21 meters held by Sebastian Steudtner.

In the women’s category, Michelle des Bouillons took home the Women’s Biggest Wave trophy for her performance at Nazaré in December 2025. Other winners included Grant Baker for Men’s Biggest Paddle and Alberto Truncer for Wipeout of the Year.
