Praia hosts 14th Meeting of Portuguese Language Writers

The 14th Meeting of Portuguese Language Writers (EELP) is being held in Praia, Santiago Island, Cabo Verde, from October 8 to 10. Organized by the Union of Portuguese-Speaking Capital Cities (UCCLA) and the Praia Municipal Council, the event focuses on the theme “The Portuguese language as an element of adaptation in a changing world.”

The gathering brings together writers, researchers, editors, professors, and literary critics from various Lusophone nations. This edition emphasizes increased participation from Brazil, Macau, and Timor-Leste to bridge geographical distances. Notable attendees include the Minister of State Administration of Timor-Leste, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, and various literary specialists from across the Portuguese-speaking world.

Beyond academic and professional exchange, organizers aim to make the event more accessible to the general public. The program includes discussions on cultural, social, and technological transformations, with specific subthemes such as the role of Cabo Verdean Morna in literary creativity.
