Praiano Salute: Volunteer doctors provide free healthcare in Amalfi Coast community

The community of Praiano, located on Italy's Amalfi Coast, has launched a volunteer-driven healthcare initiative called “Praiano Salute” to address local shortages in hospitals and medical specialists. Organized by the Municipality of Praiano in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross, the project provides free multi-specialty medical services to residents who previously faced high costs and travel difficulties to reach major cities like Salerno or Naples.

The medical team consists of approximately 30 professionals, including university professors, department heads, and retired specialists traveling from various provinces across Campania. In its first year, the project delivered over 2,000 medical services in fields such as cardiology, gynecology, dermatology, diabetology, orthopedics, senology, and neurosurgery.

In addition to routine consultations and diagnostics, the initiative focuses heavily on prevention through periodic cancer screening campaigns for early diagnosis of uterine, breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. The program operates out of a converted municipal infopoint and relies on a network of volunteers and local organizations to manage patient care.
