Prajwal Revanna returned to Bengaluru prison after cancelled transfer

Convicted former MP Prajwal Revanna was abruptly returned to Bengaluru Central Jail after a planned transfer to Hindalga Prison in Belagavi was cancelled mid-journey. While the transfer was initially recommended by police for security reasons, official directions ordered the vehicle to return to Bengaluru after traveling approximately two and a half hours.

The incident follows a controversy involving the seizure of a smartphone and a pen drive from Revanna’s cell, which forensic examinations revealed contained illicit videos. Five prison personnel, including a warder, have been suspended for their alleged roles in transporting prohibited items into the high-security division.

Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has questioned the timing of these developments, suggesting the prison transfer issues are being highlighted to divert public attention from the Bidadi farmers’ protest. Kumaraswamy called for clarity on who authorized the transfer and subsequent return, while also urging a more serious investigation into the distribution of videos via pen drives in the Mandya and Hassan regions.
