Prakash Rajpurohit appointed Deputy Election Commissioner of India

The Indian government has appointed senior IAS officer Prakash Rajpurohit as the new Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) in the Election Commission of India (ECI). A 2010-batch officer from the Rajasthan cadre, Rajpurohit will serve in the role until April 8, 2030, succeeding Sanjay Kumar.

This appointment comes amid internal discussions regarding the allocation of responsibilities within the poll panel. Specifically, the transition raises questions about the management of information technology (IT) divisions and electoral rolls. Previous concerns had been raised by Election Commissioners regarding the routing of files from the IT department, which oversees digital infrastructure and systems like ERONET.

The reshuffle is part of a broader administrative reorganization by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet involving numerous civil servant positions across various government departments and institutions.
