Pranab Patnaik, veteran Odia playback singer, dies at 88
Veteran Odia playback singer Pranab Patnaik has passed away at the age of 88. He died at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after reportedly falling ill.
Patnaik was a prominent figure in the Odia music and film industry, with a career spanning over five decades. He contributed to more than 200 films and non-film musical projects. His notable works include songs such as ‘Majhi Re’, ‘Mun Keun Sahare’, and ‘Tuma Gaon Mahumachhi’.
His musical achievements were recognized with several prestigious honors, including the Jayadev Award, the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and the State Film Award.
Following his death, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and various political and cultural leaders expressed their condolences, describing his passing as an irreparable loss to the state's art and culture. He is survived by his wife, Kasturi Patnaik, and two sons.
