PRASA reassigns Carolina communities to new water rationing zone

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) has announced changes to the water rationing schedule for the Sergio Cuevas Filtration Plant. Effective Monday, August 17, the communities of Escorial and Jardines de Carolina will be reassigned from Zone 2 to Zone 1.

This adjustment affects a total of 3,081 customers, consisting of 2,639 residents in Escorial and 442 in Jardines de Carolina. According to José Rivera Ortiz, director of the Metro Region, the decision follows an operational analysis of the distribution network. Moving these areas to Zone 1 is intended to facilitate faster water service recovery and more effective pressure stabilization within the system.

Officials noted that water restoration during the 48-hour service periods remains a progressive process. Service may not reach all customers simultaneously, as pipes and tanks must refill and pressure must stabilize. Residents in higher elevations or more distant sectors may experience longer recovery times.
