Prasar Bharati launches WAVES OTT and MyWAVES digital platforms

Prasar Bharati is transitioning its public broadcasting model into a digital ecosystem through the launch of WAVES OTT and MyWAVES. WAVES OTT, which debuted in November 2024, provides an on-demand platform featuring over 24,000 content titles and 15,000 hours of programming. The service includes access to more than 140 television channels and 220 radio services, including Doordarshan satellite channels and Akashvani networks, available in over 26 languages.

As of its recent metrics, WAVES OTT has reached 1.2 crore registered users and 1.5 crore downloads, serving audiences in more than 130 countries. The platform integrates various content types, including news, documentaries, educational materials, and archival content, alongside ONDC-integrated shopping.

Complementing the distribution model, MyWAVES allows citizens to create, upload, and share original short-form and episodic content. This initiative aims to support emerging creators and regional talent outside traditional media networks. Together, these platforms represent a shift toward an integrated digital public-service model designed to connect India’s broadcasting heritage with a digital-first generation.
