Prashant Chaudhary sentenced to 10 years for Vivek Tiwari murder case

A Lucknow district court has sentenced former Uttar Pradesh police constable Prashant Chaudhary to 10 years in prison for the 2018 murder of Vivek Tiwari. The court found Chaudhary guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of 20,000 rupees.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2018, in the Gomti Nagar extension area of Lucknow. Vivek Tiwari, an area sales manager for Apple, was traveling with a female colleague when police officers on night patrol attempted to stop their vehicle. Following a pursuit, Tiwari was shot and killed.

While Chaudhary was convicted, the court acquitted the second accused, constable Sandeep Kumar, due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The legal proceedings and investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) spanned approximately eight years.
