Prashant Kishor alleges police detain supporters ahead of Bankipur bypoll
Voting began on July 30, 2026 in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll in Bihar, with about 3.80 lakh voters casting ballots until 6 p.m. The contest features 26 candidates, including Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor, who is making his electoral debut, and BJP youth‑wing leader Neeraj Kumar Sinha.
The bypoll was triggered after BJP president Nitin Nabin resigned from the seat to join the Rajya Sabha. Kishor claimed that Bihar police detained more than 16 of his supporters at the behest of the ruling BJP, saying the party fears losing the seat. Police officials did not comment on the allegations. Vote counting is scheduled for August 3, 2026.
