Prashant Kishor takes oath as Bankipur MLA in Bihar

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, officially took the oath as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Bankipur constituency in Bihar on Monday. The ceremony was administered by Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar.

Kishor’s victory in the recent by-election was considered a major political upset, as it ended the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) long-standing dominance in the Bankipur stronghold, which the party had held since 1995. Kishor secured 64,151 votes, defeating the BJP candidate by a margin of 19,324 votes.

Following the oath-taking, Kishor outlined several key priorities for his tenure. He pledged to leverage his network to help secure private-sector employment for at least 10,000 educated youths from his constituency over the next two years. Additionally, he committed to addressing issues regarding children's education, reviving old-age pensions, and improving the ration card system within a three-month window.
