Pratap Simha faces FIRs over alleged caste-based remarks

Former BJP MP Pratap Simha is facing multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) following allegations of making derogatory remarks against the Dalit community during a Ganesha idol immersion procession in T Narasipura, Mysuru district.

One complaint, filed by the president of the B R Ambedkar Kshema Kreeda Kala Sangha, alleges that Simha insulted Dalit activists by making remarks about individuals wearing blue shawls and accusing them of acting for livelihood. The FIR includes charges under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as well as provisions for intentional insult and defamation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A separate FIR was registered following allegations that Simha made derogatory remarks regarding the caste of a police inspector during the same event. Simha has challenged these FIRs in the Karnataka High Court, arguing they are motivated by political pressure. The High Court recently refused to grant him interim relief and has requested the State to file a response to his plea, with further hearings scheduled for late September.
