Prato Chinatown murder investigation and labor exploitation probe

A 53-year-old Chinese man has been arrested in Prato after confessing to the murder of a compatriot in the city’s Chinatown. The victim was discovered in an attic on via Marini by firefighters responding to a reported fire. Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was shot twice with a 7.65 caliber pistol before the body was partially burned in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The suspect reportedly turned himself in to the police, claiming the shooting occurred during an argument after the victim filmed him using drugs. Investigators recovered the weapon from a glass recycling bin, as indicated by the suspect and confirmed by surveillance footage. The attic where the body was found is suspected to have been used as an unauthorized dormitory.

In a separate but related investigation in Prato, authorities have taken precautionary measures against five Chinese nationals following allegations of labor exploitation at a local laundry business. The investigation, led by the Guardia di Finanza, alleges that at least eight workers were subjected to 13-hour shifts, seven days a week, with minimal breaks and no regular contracts. Several individuals, including two business owners, face bans on operating businesses in the province.
