Prato majority boycotts commission meeting over procedural disputes

In Prato, the governing majority boycotted a meeting of the Control and Guarantee commission, leading to an institutional clash with the opposition. The majority, comprising the Democratic Party, Mayor Biffoni, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, and Orgoglio per Prato Casa Riformista, stated the boycott was a protest against the meeting's convocation methods.

Members argued that only department directors were invited, excluding the mayor and the executive board. They contended that such a format limits political responsibility to technical staff, which they described as a ‘democratic vulnerability’. The session was intended to discuss technical matters regarding the expansion of the Peretola airport, including legal opinions and acoustic studies.

Aldo Godi, a Fratelli d'Italia councilor and president of the commission, maintained that the meeting was convened according to law rather than political habit.
