Prato marks 82nd anniversary of liberation from Nazi-Fascist occupation
The city of Prato marked the 82nd anniversary of its liberation from Nazi-Fascist occupation on September 6. Mayor Matteo Biffoni described the occasion as a fundamental opportunity to recall the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom, noting that the principles they defended are preserved in the Italian Constitution.
Biffoni emphasized that the anniversary serves as a warning to local administrators, politicians, and citizens alike, particularly given the current complex international historical context. He stressed the importance of maintaining constitutional values and vigilance.
Commemorations began with the ringing of the Risorta bell at Palazzo Pretorio, followed by a mass at the cathedral presided over by Bishop Giovanni Nerbini. Local officials, including Prefect Michela La Iacona and Provincial President Simone Calamai, joined former partisan Fiorello Fabbri to lay a laurel wreath at the monument to the fallen in Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri. The events included participation from local municipal representatives and combatant associations, with further commemorations scheduled in Figline.
