Pratt & Whitney Canada signs maintenance deal with AirBorneo Airways

Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a four-year agreement with AirBorneo Airways to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the PW127M engines used in its ATR 72-500 regional turboprops. The contract, which runs through 2030, will primarily utilize the company’s expanded facility in Singapore to support AirBorneo’s operations within the Rural Air Services network in East Malaysia.

Separately, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has endorsed Pratt & Whitney Canada’s decision to adjust contractual terms regarding used engine parts. Following work by the European Commission, the changes remove previous restrictions on maintenance shops within the company’s network, specifically for PT6 and PW100-series turboprop engines. IATA noted that increasing competition in the aftermarket could help alleviate global supply chain constraints and maintenance capacity deficiencies that have impacted airline costs.
