Praveen Khandelwal defends 0.40 percent UPI MDR fee

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has addressed the ongoing discussion regarding Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) fees. Speaking in New Delhi, Khandelwal stated that a 0.40 percent MDR is a low fee and argued that paying for services is a standard practice.

He clarified that the MDR collected does not go to the government but is instead distributed to technology providers and banks. Khandelwal noted that RuPay debit cards can be used for transactions exceeding 2,000 rupees without incurring fees. He further claimed that MDR has not been imposed for the last 10 years and suggested that certain political parties are attempting to turn the issue into a controversy.

Additionally, the MP emphasized the increasing role of technology in business and the importance of continuous research and skill development to support the goal of a 'Developed India 2047'.
