Pravind Jugnauth Criticizes Mauritian Government at Flacq MSM Meeting

On 29 July, former Mauritian prime minister Pravind Jugnauth addressed supporters at a Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) rally in Flacq. He accused the current administration of breaking election promises, citing rising taxes, higher prices for bread, fuel and utilities, and a steep increase in the cost of living. Jugnauth condemned recent pension reforms, claiming the cuts undermine retirees, and warned that the government has demotivated police by removing benefits. He also questioned a recently published public‑finance report, demanding its authors be identified, and alleged that the Financial Crime Commission is being used to politically persecute the opposition. Jugnauth pledged that, should the MSM return to power, the VAT registration threshold for small businesses would be raised from Rs 3 million to Rs 10 million and pensions would be restored to previous levels.
