Prazzo to host ninth ‘Caluma el vache’ alpine grazing event

The ninth edition of ‘Caluma el vache: Il ritorno della mandria a valle’ will take place in Prazzo on September 9. Organized by Confagricoltura Cuneo, the event celebrates the end of the alpine grazing season as herds descend from the Grange Piscivo pasture to the valley.

Enrico Allasia, president of Confagricoltura Cuneo, noted that this year’s event is scheduled earlier than usual due to precarious mountain pasture conditions. Severe drought has reduced forage availability and dried out the grass, forcing herders to bring livestock down from high altitudes sooner than expected. The event serves as a forum for local herders to discuss challenges facing high-altitude agricultural and livestock businesses, specifically the impact of climate-driven drought.
