PRD Parliamentary Group secures reforms for women's protection and animal welfare

The PRD Parliamentary Group, coordinated by Deputy Omar Ortega Álvarez, has secured the approval of several reforms within the LXII Legislature. These measures focus on strengthening protections for women, children, and animal welfare, while promoting family co-responsibility and efficient health services.

A key component of the reforms addresses vicarious violence. New legislation establishes penalties of up to eight years in prison for individuals who use children or close relatives to inflict harm on a woman. Additional sanctions include economic penalties, the loss of parental rights, and mandatory psychological treatment or re-education programs. Under these rules, visitation rights may be suspended if violence is proven and only reinstated following successful participation in positive parenting programs.

Furthermore, the legislative agenda included initiatives to modernize parliamentary work, establish internal regulations for the Institute of Legislative Studies, and create specialized commissions for amnesty follow-ups and animal welfare.
