Pre-war electrotechnical relic discovered in Polish attic

A unique piece of pre-war Polish electrotechnical history was discovered during cleaning work in an attic in Chełm. The object, a small metal item, was initially unremarkable but was identified by specialists due to the ‘BRABORK’ logo on its casing.

Paweł Wira, head of the Chełm branch of the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Lublin, identified the item using a 1938 electrotechnical catalog. It is a two-part cast-iron hermetic junction box designed for steel pipes and cables.

The artifact was manufactured by the Warsaw-based Zakłady Elektrotechniczne – Bracia Borkowscy S.A., a major company in the Polish electrotechnical industry during the Second Polish Republic. The item, weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms and measuring 85 millimeters in diameter, is noted for its exceptional state of preservation, including its original sealing cord and factory black paint.
