Precept Wine & Spirits acquires Miller Family Wine Company portfolio

Precept Wine & Spirits has acquired the brand portfolio of the Santa Barbara-based Miller Family Wine Company. This acquisition marks Precept’s first major investment in California and focuses on the Central Coast region.

The deal includes nine nationally distributed brands, such as Butternut, Ballard Lane, Smashberry, Optik, and J. Wilkes. Precept also acquired all associated trademarks, finished goods inventory, bulk wine, and the company’s private-label business.

While the sale price was not disclosed, the Miller family will retain ownership of their historic vineyards, including Bien Nacido, Solomon Hills, and French Camp. The family intends to shift their focus back to farming and estate winemaking rather than large-scale brand management.
