Precision Neuroscience raises $250 million for brain-computer interface

Precision Neuroscience has secured $250 million in a Series D funding round, bringing its total investment to $430 million and valuing the company at over $1 billion. The round was led by Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square, the Ackman Oxman Institute, and an unnamed life sciences fund. Other participants include ARK Invest, B Capital, Duquesne Family Office, and Invus.

The company specializes in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. Its Layer 7 device utilizes a thin film containing 1,024 electrodes that sits on the surface of the brain. This approach differs from competitors like Neuralink, which places electrodes inside brain tissue; experts note that surface-based devices may reduce risks of infection and scarring, though internal electrodes may offer higher precision by reading single neurons.

The FDA cleared the Layer 7 technology for up to 30 days of use in April 2025. Precision Neuroscience has already conducted over 100 procedures across 18 medical centers. The new capital will support the company’s efforts to develop and gain approval for permanent wireless implants.
