Precision psychiatry aims to tailor schizophrenia treatments

Researchers are working to advance precision psychiatry to better match schizophrenia patients with tailored medications. The current approach often relies on a difficult process of trial and error, where patients may attempt numerous antipsychotic drugs before finding an effective treatment.

To address this, the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech will host a Precision Therapeutics symposium on September 23-24. The event will convene pharmaceutical leaders, scientists, and clinicians to explore computational approaches and precision therapeutics. The primary objective is to identify specific biological differences among patients to help guide more accurate and effective medical interventions.
