Polymarket CEO hints at potential crypto token launch

Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan has renewed speculation regarding the potential launch of a native cryptocurrency token. Speaking at the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore, Coplan discussed exploring an onchain asset with “real programmable utility” tied to the platform’s economy, though he did not confirm a launch date, distribution plan, or airdrop details.

The company is reportedly weighing multiple paths for its future growth, including traditional equity financing such as an initial public offering or the introduction of a crypto token. Polymarket’s valuation has seen significant upward movement, with recent reports suggesting values between $15 billion and over $20 billion. The platform has also been expanding its regulated presence in the United States through QCX, a CFTC-designated contract market.

As a peer-to-peer prediction market, Polymarket generates revenue through trading fees and maintains significant liquidity in USDC. The platform is increasingly used to track probabilities for major global events, including U.S. legislative elections and sporting outcomes.
