Prefect Fabio Ciciliano signs Niscemi landslide ordinance

Prefect Fabio Ciciliano, head of the Department of Civil Protection and extraordinary commissioner for the Niscemi area, signed an ordinance on 5 August 2026 that sets the rules for granting financial contributions to owners of properties damaged or destroyed by the January 2026 landslide in Niscemi, Sicily. The decree designates the municipality of Niscemi as the implementing authority and bases the amount of aid on property values recorded in the Revenue Agency’s real‑estate market observatory.

The ordinance provides a maximum €3,000 for technical and notarial expenses and a flat €6,000 per unit to cover the purchase of furniture and other movable goods. It also extends aid to owners of structurally intact buildings that lie within the landslide zone or a restricted perimeter where evacuation orders remain in force. Recipients must begin reconstruction within 90 days of receiving the grant and complete the work within 24 months, otherwise penalties may apply.
