Pregnant suspect re‑arrested in Manaus after police investigator's killing
A pregnant woman investigated for involvement in a large drug seizure operation in Manaus was taken back into preventive detention after a court overturned her earlier house‑arrest order. The decision followed a petition by the Ministério Público do Amazonas, which argued that the seriousness of the case and the risk to public order required incarceration.
The operation, conducted by the Departamento de Investigação sobre Narcóticos (Denarc), seized roughly 874 kilograms of narcotics, firearms, ammunition and ballistic vests. During the raid, police investigator Luciano Carvalho de Sena of the Amazonas Civil Police was shot and later died in hospital. The suspect, the sister of another accused, had initially received house arrest because of a high‑risk pregnancy, but the prosecutor’s appeal led to her re‑imprisonment.
Authorities located and detained the woman, returning her to a prison facility while the criminal investigation proceeds.
