Nancy Guthrie disappearance sparks private search and forensic probe

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home on the night of January 31–February 1, 2026. She is the mother of NBC “Today” co‑anchor Savannah Guthrie. More than 100 days later the case remains open, with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI still reviewing home‑security video and DNA evidence. The Guthrie family has been cleared of any suspicion.

Savannah Guthrie has hired an independent investigative team, spending roughly $500,000 on former federal agents, security experts and private detectives to supplement the official effort. A $1 million reward from the family and a $50,000‑plus FBI reward are being offered for information.

Investigators continue to focus on the masked intruder captured on the doorbell camera, believing the kidnapping was intentional and possibly carried out by someone familiar with the victim’s routines. Legal and forensic experts note that DNA testing aims to narrow the suspect pool.

Separate from the kidnapping, a full human skeleton discovered less than five miles from the Guthrie home was identified by University of Arizona anthropologists as a prehistoric Native‑American burial and is unrelated to the case.
