Premedica launches new kidney function blood test service

Premedica Co., Ltd. has partnered with Renoprotect Co., Ltd. to launch ‘Renodock Light,’ a new blood testing service for medical institutions starting October 1, 2026. The service aims to assist in the early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition estimated to affect approximately 20 million people in Japan.

The test evaluates kidney function using two specific indicators: ‘renal strength’ and ‘renal filtration power.’ By utilizing uromodulin measurement technology, the service provides insights into renal reserve, which can help identify kidney function decline before symptoms appear. This is intended to encourage lifestyle improvements and proactive health management.

In a separate research development, Premedica, in collaboration with Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine and Setsunan University, has published findings in the journal ‘Gut Microbes Reports’ regarding Japanese gut microbiota. The study analyzed 770 residents in Kyotango City, identifying five distinct gut bacteria types, or enterotypes, and their specific correlations with dietary and nutritional intake patterns.
