Premier Cho Rong-tay inspects typhoon-damaged grain warehouses in Yilan

Taiwanese Premier Cho Rong-tay visited Wujie Township in Yilan County on the 25th to inspect damage to public grain warehouses caused by Typhoon Prapiroon. The storm damaged the external cladding of several cold storage silos at the Xiaowei grain warehouse, affecting both regulated and self-operated storage units.

To address the damage, Cho instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to verify repair costs and simplify the administrative application process for subsidies to accelerate repairs. He emphasized that all silos, regardless of whether they are regulated or private, play an equally vital role in national food security and should be treated uniformly during the repair process.

Regarding financial support, the Premier noted that current subsidies cover up to 65% for warehouse main structures and up to 50% for surrounding facilities. He urged the Ministry of Agriculture to assess the financial burden on farmers' associations and suggested that the Executive Yuan would provide further assistance if ministry funds are insufficient. Additionally, Cho called for a nationwide audit of grain warehouses to address issues regarding wind resistance, waterproofing, structural safety, and aging infrastructure to enhance disaster resilience.
