Premier Energies commissions India’s largest solar cell facility
Premier Energies Limited has commissioned a 7 GW n-type TOPCon G12R solar cell manufacturing facility in Naidupeta, Andhra Pradesh. This new plant brings the company’s total solar cell manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW, establishing it as India’s largest solar cell manufacturer by capacity.
The facility, which spans approximately 101 acres (40 hectares), was developed with a capital expenditure of ₹3,293 crore ($343.7 million). It is designed to produce roughly 88,000 solar cells per hour using advanced digital manufacturing systems and artificial intelligence for process control and predictive analysis. Once the facility stabilizes and ramps up, it aims to achieve an average solar cell efficiency of approximately 25.8%.
Managing Director Chiranjeev Saluja stated that the commissioning is a significant execution milestone that provides the scale necessary to meet growing demand for high-efficiency solar products. The company also plans to pursue backward integration into ingots and wafers to strengthen its integrated manufacturing platform and supply-chain resilience.
