FIFA President Gianni Infantino signals increased funding for member associations

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has signaled his support for increasing financial distributions to the organization’s 211 member associations. In a letter sent to the six continental confederations, Infantino indicated he would support the “greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered” from FIFA’s reserves, which are projected to reach approximately $6 billion by the end of 2026.

The proposal follows significant pressure from UEFA and CONCACAF, which have requested a $2.1 billion payout. Specifically, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani proposed that each member association receive at least $10 million during the 2027-2030 cycle. The FIFA Council is scheduled to evaluate these funding proposals and related financial models on October 15.

This development occurs amid political tension regarding Infantino’s leadership and his upcoming re-election in March 2027. The move follows the withdrawal of the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan, which had sought to sell minority stakes in World Cup commercial rights to private investors. Major European leagues, including the Premier League and La Liga, have also called for governance reforms to separate FIFA’s regulatory and commercial functions.
