Premier League leads European transfer market with over €2 bn spent

Premier League clubs have spent more than €2 bn on summer transfer activity, dwarfing the roughly €420 m total of Spain’s Liga. Nine of the ten biggest deals involve English teams. Chelsea topped the list with a €137.3 m acquisition of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, followed by Manchester City’s €135 m purchase of Elliot Anderson. Tottenham added Sandro Tonali for about €108 m and Mateus Fernandes for €99 m, while Arsenal paid €87 m for Bruno Guimarães. Other notable moves include Liverpool’s €63 m signing of Jérémy Jacquet and Tottenham’s €60 m purchase of Jan Paul van Hecke.

The spending gap highlights the Premier League’s financial dominance over other major leagues such as Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and Germany’s Bundesliga, which together lag far behind the English clubs’ outlays.
