Premier League: Manchester City hits 2,000 goals as Haaland nears record

The second gameweek of the 2026-27 Premier League season featured several significant milestones. Manchester City became only the sixth team in league history to reach 2,000 goals following a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

Erling Haaland continued his scoring form, reaching 24 Premier League goals in August from 16 appearances, placing him one goal behind Andrew Cole’s record of 25. Additionally, Haaland scored in each of his first five Premier League away matches against Crystal Palace.

Promoted side Hull City maintained a perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win over Coventry City, making them the fourth promoted team to win their opening two matches. Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis recorded his second consecutive clean sheet, a feat not achieved by a promoted side's goalkeeper since the 2021/22 season. Liam Millar also became the ninth Canadian to score in the Premier League.

Manchester United secured a 5-2 win over Ipswich, led by a hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes. This marked Fernandes' second Premier League hat-trick and his second in a season home opener.
