Premier League projected to contribute £33 billion to UK economy

The Premier League continues to demonstrate massive economic and social influence within the United Kingdom. An EY report indicates the competition is projected to contribute £33 billion to the UK economy over the next two years, generating up to £14.8 billion in tax revenue and supporting approximately 107,000 jobs per season.

Global broadcasting rights for the league reach approximately £1.8 billion, a figure comparable to the rest of the British television sector combined. The league's international reach includes 1.9 billion viewers across 189 countries. Furthermore, international tourism driven by Premier League matches contributed to 2.6% of all international tourist visits to the UK in the 2023/2024 season.

On the player side, the league's financial power is reflected in astronomical wages. A high-earning 4-3-3 formation for the 2026/27 season shows a single matchday cost of £3.37 million for just eleven players. Erling Haaland remains the highest-paid player in this financial ranking, while Gianluigi Donnarumma is noted as the league's highest-earning goalkeeper.
