Premier League confirms return of traditional Boxing Day fixtures
The Premier League has announced its festive fixture schedule for the 2026/27 season, marking a return to the traditional Boxing Day schedule. After a previous season that featured only one match on December 26, the league has confirmed seven matches will take place on Boxing Day.
Key fixtures include Aston Villa hosting Leeds United, Newcastle United facing Manchester City in an 8:00 pm kickoff, and Hull City hosting Liverpool. The schedule also includes matches on December 27, December 29, December 30, and New Year’s Day, with further action continuing into early January.
To address concerns regarding fixture congestion and player welfare, the league has guaranteed that all clubs will have a minimum of 60 hours of rest between matches during the holiday period. Additionally, the broadcast selection process was brought forward to provide supporters with more than three months of notice, allowing for better travel and logistical planning during the holiday season.
