Premier League shatters transfer‑spending record with €3.61 billion in summer window

The English Premier League has become the world’s most aggressive transfer market, spending €1.23 billion in just two weeks of the 2026 summer window. At the current pace, total season spending is projected to exceed the all‑time record of €3.61 billion. Seven of the ten clubs that have spent the most so far are from the Premier League, with five clubs already surpassing €100 million each: Tottenham Hotspur (€267 m), Manchester City (€175 m), Brighton (& Hove) (€126 m), Chelsea (€119 m) and Liverpool (€103 m). The average club outlay stands at about €85 million.

Revenue generated by the league in the same period has reached €864 million, roughly half of the €2.09 billion recorded last season, underscoring the financial intensity of the market. Notable transfers include Elliot Anderson’s €135 million move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, the most expensive English signing ever, alongside deals for Anthony Gordon and Marc Cucurella. Only one of the ten most expensive deals so far involved a non‑Premier League club – Gonçalo Ramos’s €74 million transfer to AC Milan.

The window remains open for another 50 days, and the Premier League appears set to continue breaking spending benchmarks without signs of a market slowdown.
