Arsenal to open 2026‑27 Premier League season against promoted Coventry City

The Premier League has released the full 2026‑27 schedule, with the season kicking off on Friday 21 August 2026. Defending champions Arsenal will host newly‑promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium for the opening match. Coventry return to the top flight after a 25‑year absence, having won the Championship under manager Frank Lampard.

The calendar has been adjusted to accommodate the 2026 World Cup, resulting in a later start and a 60‑hour minimum break over the Christmas period. Other notable opening‑day fixtures include Hull City versus Manchester United, Everton versus Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town versus Sunderland and Brentford versus Tottenham Hotspur. The traditional Boxing Day derby and a series of high‑profile derbies are also slated throughout the season.

Coventry’s chairman Doug King said the club is not intimidated by the challenge, while the league emphasized reduced fixture congestion and limited clashes with UEFA competitions.
