Infrastructure projects and road works underway in Czechia and Slovakia

Various infrastructure projects and maintenance works are underway across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, impacting regional transport and local urban environments.

In the Czech Republic, the D1 highway near Prague will face nighttime closures on August 21–23 for load testing on the Šmejkalka bridge. Eight heavy trucks totaling 256 tons will be used to monitor the structural response of the newly reconstructed section. Additionally, the city of Písek has received building permits to modernize the area in front of its railway station, including new bus bays and pedestrian connections. In Uherské Hradiště, a 22-million-koruna project is set to reconstruct sewage systems and public spaces in the Vésky district.

In Slovakia, significant highway developments are occurring. The second stage of the Prešov northern bypass is progressing to further divert transit traffic from the city center. However, the completion of the R1 expressway section between Banská Bystrica and Slovenská Ľupča has been delayed by over 700 days due to technical and environmental challenges. Other local projects include a four-month closure of the bridge between Devínska Nová Ves and Stupava for reconstruction, new sidewalk construction in Banská Bystrica, and a funding bid by Stará Ľubovňa to modernize a local primary school and gym.
