Prešov region launches prostate and aortic aneurysm screening
The Prešov Self-Governing Region (PSK) has launched an innovative early diagnostic program for prostate cancer and abdominal aortic aneurysms, making it the first Slovak region to implement such an initiative.
Funded by nearly 960,000 euros through the Swiss-Slovak Cooperation Program, the project aims to provide free screenings for approximately 4,000 high-risk patients. The initiative was developed in response to unfavorable health statistics in Slovakia, where life expectancy in good health lags behind the European Union average and many preventable deaths occur due to late diagnoses.
The program seeks to create a model for potential nationwide screening by detecting these conditions while they are still treatable. The initiative was presented at a professional conference in Prešov involving medical experts in urology, angiology, and radiology, as well as representatives from the Slovak Ministry of Health and the Swiss Embassy.
