Prešov regional election results show rise of Milan Mazurek

In the Prešov regional elections, incumbent Milan Majerský successfully defended his position as governor, securing 48.48 percent of the vote. However, Milan Mazurek, representing the Republika movement, emerged as a significant challenger, obtaining 35.68 percent of the votes.

Mazurek’s performance is noted as a historically strong result for a candidate from the far-right, surpassing previous vote counts achieved by other extremist figures in regional elections. His achievement of over 100,000 votes is being viewed by analysts as a sign of political shifts in the region.

Public reaction to the results has been mixed. Former hockey captain Branislav Rapáč expressed alarm on social media regarding the level of support gained by Mazurek, citing his controversial past. Meanwhile, local political figures have criticized Mazurek’s qualifications and political style.
