Prepaid cards offer secure alternative for online shopping

Prepaid cards, also known as e-wallets, are increasingly being used as a secure alternative to credit and debit cards, particularly for online transactions. According to professionals from the Banco de España, these cards are considered electronic money, allowing users to make purchases in physical stores and on the internet up to the limit of the amount previously loaded.

Key advantages include enhanced security through reinforced authentication systems and greater spending control. Virtual prepaid cards, which lack physical support but provide a card number, expiration date, and CVV, are specifically designed to facilitate safer online shopping. These cards do not require a current account and can be topped up via banking apps, websites, bank transfers, ATMs, or in-person at bank offices.
