Presidency University expels two students over defaced poster
Presidency University in Kolkata has expelled two female students following allegations that they defaced a poster of Swami Vivekananda with abusive and derogatory remarks. The university decision followed an inquiry committee report that reviewed CCTV footage and consulted various stakeholders.
The expelled students are barred from participating in further academic activities and are prohibited from seeking admission to any future degree programs at the university. The administration stated it will not tolerate abuse directed at thinkers, ideas, or organizations.
The incident follows a complaint by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which alleged the poster was defaced on the campus. Meanwhile, political tensions have escalated as Suvendu Adhikari called for a clean-up of Jadavpur and Presidency university campuses, sparking backlash from leaders who claim such rhetoric threatens academic freedom.
