President Abelardo de la Espriella announces Buga reconstruction plan
President Abelardo de la Espriella has announced a significant investment package to reconstruct Buga following an earthquake on August 10. The plan includes $2.5 billion pesos to repair over 100 affected homes and $1.2 billion pesos specifically for the recovery of the Basílica del Señor de los Milagros. The government is also seeking an additional $5 billion pesos from the private sector to support the basilica's restoration.
During the presidential visit, the first earthquake-resistant home, donated by the private sector, was delivered to a victimized family. To facilitate the president's agenda and ensure public order, the local administration of Guadalajara de Buga implemented several temporary restrictions for Saturday, September 5. These measures include a ban on male passengers on motorcycles, a localized dry law, restrictions on carrying weapons, and a total prohibition on drone flights.
Additionally, mobility restrictions were established, including a ban on heavy transport and specific cargo—such as gas cylinders and debris—within the urban center from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. Parking restrictions are also in effect within a four-block radius of the Basilica and other institutional points.
